Dear JCOBA-NY,
Many people consider just standing beside such distinguished artists and statesmen as the Honourable Seymour “Foggy” Mullings, Mr. Monty Alexander and Messrs. Roger and Ian Lewis a great privilege. To be recognized by the past students of such a noble institution as Jamaica College and to be on the same list of awardees with these gentlemen as well as the other awardees: my school mate Mr. Lance Clarke, who deserves every honour for his utmost dedication, Mr. Lowell Hawthorne and VP Records for their ever willing and ongoing support, is understandably a most enviable privilege. Then to be accorded such accolades by my fellow musical awardees was emotionally most moving and I want to say ditto brethren, much success as you continue on the musical journey. Thanks so much to Mr. Stephen “Cat” Coore for that glowing video tribute.
I humbly accept the award, confessing that I am still reeling from the stellar recognition given to me by the New York Chapter of the Jamaica College Old Boys Association (JCOBANY). Please allow me to express my appreciation for your dedication to upholding the standard that Jamaica College represents as well as preserving the historic significance of our Alma Mater.
Your excellent choice of guest speaker was evidence of the culture of gentlemanly taste fostered by Jamaica College and I thank the dear minister the Honourable Lisa Hanna, Minister of Culture and Youth, for her glowing remarks, advice and encouragement pertaining to the role played and to be played by the institution as well as the accolades that she graciously bestowed on me for my contribution to the national performing arts.
The opportunity to perform with Albanian cellist, Ms. Gjilberta Lucaj was definitely a treat for me. We now have a link that we will be working on. This will hopefully bear fruit musical in the near future.
Notwithstanding all this, it was the opportunity to be in the same room once again alongside the gentlemen with whom I attended JC, that was the icing on the cake and I must say that they have “weather the weather well”. We have a brotherhood built on fond memories and the occasion afforded us yet another.
To JCOBANY, keep up the good work. I do sincerely pledge my assistance.
This is the future that we used to wonder, “What would it be like?”. It now teaches us to see the remaining time in the most positive light possible.
