Jamaica College Robotics: Blazing a Trail in Innovation and Excellence Innovation and Excellence
When the Jamaica College Old Boys Association of New York (JCOBA-NY) introduced Robotics to Jamaica College in the late aughts, and later secured the prestigious F.I.R.S.T. franchise for Jamaica, the vision was as ambitious as it was inspiring. While the senior Robotics team has earned legendary status for their exceptional performances, the dream was to extend this legacy to our younger Griffins - first and second formers. We aimed to make Jamaica College the first Jamaican team to compete in the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE, offering an incredible platform for our students to engage in competitive robotics and showcase their talents on a global stage.
This year, that vision has become a reality! Not only did our team participate, but they also made an extraordinary debut, earning the Best Innovation Project and Best Presentation awards. This historic moment is a testament to the hard work of our students, the steadfast leadership of Principal Wayne Robinson, the dedication of our teachers, and the invaluable guidance of our mentors. Their collective effort and commitment have propelled this program to incredible heights and inspired a new generation of Griffins.
Furthermore, this milestone highlights the transformative power of the STEAM Infusion Project, championed by our visionary benefactor, Dr. Joseph Tait, a member of JCOBA-NY. Dr. Tait’s steadfast belief in the power of education and innovation has been the lifeline of our robotics program. His significant investment has paved the way for these achievements, making this victory a fitting and continuing return on investment for his vision of empowering our boys to excel in the ever-evolving world of STEM.
Thank you, Dr. Tait, for your resolute support, and to all our perennial supporters who continue to make this journey possible. Together, we are not just making history; we’re building a legacy of excellence.
